OUR RETURN TO HOBART

Well we took the plunge, signed a contract on a 5 room bed and breakfast in Rosetta Tasmania.

Having not stayed at a bed and breakfast at this stage, we quickly went about gaining as much knowledge as possible and stayed at a couple of B&B's.

We then set about doing some research, all bed and breakfasts are run differently. Some are just self contained units, or a single bedroom where the kids have left home. What type of bed and breakfast did we want to run? one where we never saw the guests, showed them to their rooms and didn't see them again till they checked out and we collected the money! Or did we want to make our guests feel like part of our family. Well we decided on the second option, and anyone who has met my husband Rocco will agree that this was the only way it could work.

So we packed up our house in Melbourne to move us all back home to Tasmania. What a nightmare!! I had refused to pack and we paid the proffessionals to do it, and I am still looking for things. We left Newport with 3 x 30ft containers of stuff plus another container of Rocco's garage stuff. We collect a lot of stuff.

On arrival at the Undine we had asked the previous owners not to book anyone in for a week or more, just to give the kids a chance to settle in. However this was not to happen, on collecting the keys we were told that we had 24 hours before our first guests arrived. This was followed by the arrival of 375 boxes many of which have still not been opened some three years later.

We have been running the B&B for nearly 3 years now and continue to enjoy it. It is not physically hard work but just long hours. The majority of our guests continue to be lovely people which makes our job so much easier.

So a little bit about the Bed and Breakfast we purchased.

One of the oldest homes in Tasmania Undine circa 1816 it is a fine example of ‘an old Georgian house’. We provide friendly 4½ star accommodation. Accommodating a maximum of 15 Guests with a range of spacious rooms all with ensuite facilities televisions DVD’s and free broadband access.

Every morning between 8.00 am and 9.00 am our guests can enjoy our fully cooked country style breakfast, as Rocco and I make sure you know where to go and that you don't miss anything on the way.
